Netflix originals and orbital debris, on the same upward path. Two cluttered domains, one in entertainment, one in low Earth orbit, both expanding faster than anyone bargained for. The cleanup will be expensive in both cases.

Netflix original titles released per year went from a handful in 2013 to over 700 in peak years as the streaming wars demanded volume. Tracked orbital debris grew from about 14,500 catalogued objects in 2013 to over 26,000 by 2022, with the 2021 Russian ASAT test adding a noticeable bump. Both reflect the same scaling-without-cleanup pattern: content commissioned faster than it could be retired, debris generated faster than it could be deorbited. The 2010s were good at adding things and bad at removing them.

Abundance has a downstream cost. Two domains with the same problem and very different cleanup budgets.
