Overview

Spurious (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a free app that shows humorous spurious correlations between real-world datasets. We respect your privacy and collect as little data as possible.

Data We Collect

Saved correlations: Stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to your saved items.

Analytics: We use Google Analytics (web) to understand aggregate usage patterns such as page views and country-level geography. No personally identifiable information is collected.

Advertising: We use Google AdMob to display ads in the mobile app. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve ads. You can opt out of personalized ads through your device settings.

Purchases: In-app purchases (e.g., “Remove Ads”) are processed entirely by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not collect or store payment information.

Tracking & Advertising

On iOS, we request your permission via App Tracking Transparency (ATT) before any tracking occurs. If you decline, only non-personalized ads are shown. You can change this at any time in your device’s Settings > Privacy > Tracking.

Data Retention

All user-generated data (saved correlations, preferences) is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. We do not maintain user accounts or server-side user data.

Children’s Privacy

Spurious is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
