The story behind Spurious

Our Mission

Spurious exists to make statistical literacy delightful. In a world drowning in data, we believe understanding why “correlation does not imply causation” is a superpower—and learning it should be fun.

We collect weird, funny, and surprisingly convincing correlations from real data, and use them to teach critical thinking without the textbook boredom.

What We Do

1

Curate Weird Correlations

We analyze thousands of datasets to find the most surprising, funny, and shareable spurious correlations.

2

Explain Without Lecturing

Every correlation comes with a friendly explanation of why it might exist—without claiming false causation.

3

Make It Shareable

Beautiful cards designed for social media, because the best way to learn is to teach (or at least to show off).

FAQ

Is this data real?

Yes! All correlations are calculated from real datasets. The relationships are genuine statistical correlations—the spurious part is assuming they're causally related.

How are correlations calculated?

We use Pearson's correlation coefficient, which measures linear relationships between variables. It's the most common method but only captures linear patterns.

Can I suggest a correlation?

Absolutely! We're always looking for new weird correlations. Send us your ideas via email or Twitter.

Is my uploaded data safe?

Yes. Any data you upload for correlation analysis is processed locally in your browser and never sent to our servers.
